Why do I need to buckle
up my pup?
You need to buckle up your pup for the same reason you buckle
up your children and yourself when you drive. A restrained pet
helps create a safer driving environment, for you and your dog.
If you were to get into an accident, an unrestrained
pet can be injured or killed, by being thrown into the windshield
or ejected from the car.
An unrestrained pet can be a distraction to
you while driving and become a major hazard. No matter how much
you love your pet they do have their own ideas about when it is
appropriate to jump in your lap or nuzzle for attention.
An unrestrained pet might jump out of the vehicle
unexpectedly. In the blink of an eye, your dog can be out the
window or out of the truck bed, chasing after something more interesting.
Dogs don't know they can get hurt jumping out of a moving vehicle,
and if the jump doesn't hurt them, they can still be hit by other
cars.
With the Buckle-Up-Pup harness system your dog
is safely secured in your car or truck. Your dog can still move
around, but not far enough to be dangerous to himself or the driver.
How does the Buckle-Up-Pup harness system work?
The Buckle-Up-Pup harness system utilizes a chest and rear harness
to secure your dog's entire body. The dog's front and rear-end
are connected by a "V" tie-down to a central anchor
point below the dog's belly. The distance the dog can move, or
be thrown, is limited to the length of the tie-down. The tie-down
can be attached to a seat belt or floor-mounted anchor point.
Because the anchor point is located below the dog, the dog cannot
get tangled in the straps or the seat belt.
The innovative design of the Buckle-Up-Pup harness
system allows your dog to sit, stand, lie down or walk around
in small circles to check out the view. The distance of their
movement is restricted, and in the event of an accident neither
end of the dog can be thrown far from the central anchor point.
What advantages does Buckle-Up-Pup have?
1) The Buckle-Up-Pup harness system secures both the front and
rear-end of your dog. The distance either end can travel (in forward
and backwards directions) is restricted. Chest harnesses only
"half" restrain a dog, similar to early lap belts for
humans. Shoulder belts were added for humans, Buckle-Up-Pup adds
the rear harness for dogs. In the event your vehicle were to roll
over, the Buckle-Up-Pup harness is designed to create a hammock-like
condition.
2) The Buckle-Up-Pup harness is comfortable
for any dog to wear. You will quickly see that your dog does not
even notice the harness once it is on. It's unisex, and comfortable
for both altered and unaltered animals.
Plus, your dog is able to do their 'potty' business
while wearing the harness. Your dog will not need to be undressed
for short walks or potty breaks during a long drive. Although
you can comfortably leave their harness on, it is not recommended
as active wear and should be removed when playing or walking for
long periods of time.
3) It's versatile. The Buckle-Up-Pup harness
is as functional and appropriate in a truck, as it is in a car,
or the back of an SUV. You can easily change your pet's location
as needed.
Is the harness confusing to put on?
The Buckle-Up-Pup harness is a new concept, but it isn't hard.
Read the instructions, have patience with your pup's initial curiosity
and you will find the system simple. You will soon discover that
the harness is easy for you to dress your dog in and easy for
your dog to wear.
What type of vehicle can you use the harness system in?
You can use Buckle-Up-Pup harness sytem in any vehicle. Initially,
I created the system to work for our dogs when we went off-roading
in our Jeep®; but the system is versatile. It can connect to any
seat belt or you can install an anchor point in the floor of your
truck or van.
Why did you design the Buckle-Up-Pup harness?
My husband and I spend a lot of time riding trails in our Jeep®.
Most people keep the tops off of their vehicles and many have
their dogs along with them. I was uncomfortable with how people
restrained their dogs and searched the market for a system that
worked. There wasn't anything available that met our requirements,
so I designed it myself.
